Here at Platform we've been very busy with a communication audit for the Follow My Lead scheme. The Follow My Lead scheme is an award based training scheme is an award based training scheme which aims to enhance the communication and quality of life for people with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). It provides an initial assessment which then provides advice on areas to improve on, they then come back in 3 months and review the changes implemented, before then deciding the Award status that is to be given.
As part of the process we implemented new ways to effectively communicate with each client and create a fun interactive environment. We did this through a variety of ways, one such way was creating communication passports which inform staff about how each individual client communicates in their own unique way. Another way was by creating a choice board which we can place pictures of activities on the board to give clients the choice of what they would like to do. We also created an object of reference basket with items that link to a particular activity so that the clients can see and feel this and associate it with an activity or place. We also started to implement PECS boards so that we can plan out the day with the client and show them what the day will entail.
So with all this now in place and being used effectively it gives us great pleasure to announce that we were awarded with a GOLD award. A big thank you to our staff for embracing the changes and implementing them so effectively and a big big thank you to our communication lead Beth for creating all the wonderful tools we are now implementing and using daily within Platform.
